Welcome to the University of St. Gallen and the ECPR Joint Sessions 2011!

Among the most important conferences in political science, the ECPR Joint Sessions stand out by their comprehensiveness and intensity. Scholars of all generations and many nationalities come together, each attending with a paper, to engage in five days of inspiring discussions that yield lasting personal contacts and scientific advance.

It is this unique spirit that led the Institute of Political Science of the University of St. Gallen (IPW) to organise the ECPR Joint Sessions 2011. We feel honoured that the Joint Sessions are being held in St. Gallen, and we are committed to making them a success. Political science in St. Gallen is growing fast and increasingly active. The Institute edits journals and organises conferences, supports funded research, and hosts specialised research centres as well as inter-disciplinary initiatives.

You will be surprised at how easy St. Gallen can be reached, and how beautiful the city and its surrounding lake and mountains are. As a place intimately connected with the history of Europe and located in the magnificent landscape of Eastern Switzerland, St. Gallen provides an ideal setting for the Joint Sessions. The university itself is located on a leafy campus only ten walking minutes from the picturesque city centre. The special architecture of its freshly renovated campus and its marvellous modern art collection alone make it worth a visit.

This website includes the necessary information to make your stay in St. Gallen pleasant and your attendance at the conference straightforward. Do not hesitate to contact us. The local organisers are more than happy to help out.
